Chronic retrobulbar and chiasmal neuritis.
نویسنده
چکیده
AcuTE retrobulbar neuritis is a common disorder, easily recognized if the characteristic features are known, and usually followed by a good recovery of vision. In contrast to this, chronic retrobulbar neuritis is relatively rare, presents problems in differential diagnosis and is associated with progressive visual disturbance which is usually permanent and sometimes severe. This paper is based on a clinical study of patients under observation for at least 2 years. It will be emphasized that progressive visual failure does occur in multiple sclerosis and may contribute to the disability in that disease.

IN the everyday examination of the visual fields, on the ward or in the clinic, we utilize methods which are simple and relatively effective. The extent of each peripheral field is tested by finger movement, or by a coloured or white-headed pin, and the blind spot and any scotomata are similarly noted by the use of a pin. A more accurate assessment of the central fields, with respect to small s...
متن کاملInfluence of retrobulbar neuritis and papillitis on echographically measured optic nerve diameter.
BACKGROUND/AIM Retrobulbar (optic) neuritis is inflammation of the optic nerve that may cause a complete or partial loss of vision. This inflammation can affect a part of the nerve within the eyeball (neuropapillitis) or a part of the nerve behind the eyeball (retrobulbar neuritis). The aim of this study was to establish whether there is a correlation between the diameter of a retrobulbar part ...

In this prospective study 20 patients with multiple sclerosis and acute retrobulbar neuritis were examined. Optic nerve diameter was measured by ultrasound. Brain lesions were detected by magnetic resonanc...
